They could also write about an exciting experience they had on the field trip to the zoo. Here, they choose the word to complete each sentence and draw their own pictures. The arms would be cut to hold the writing template. Young children would dictate what they want printed.

The children could also be provided with a template to complete their own sentence where they would be required to fill in a word could be a sight word.

I print the monthly themed words onto card stock and place them in a pocket chart. I really encourage inventive and "best guess" spelling so the words are by no means meant for my students to spell their monthly words correctly. The template would be painted and cut.
